Although I have 2 real-time and more on-demand, I chose Panda Cloud, because it's doing the traditional role (monitoring files on-access in the disk). Avast is custom installed for maximum compatibility and protection.

If counting on-demand scanners (with ones like Hitman Pro included), I wonder who's really using none.

Yes, I like it and was first persuaded to have a look after reading the PCMag review

My decision was hardly scientific, but definitely up to YouTube standards My tech no longer offers service contracts for Windows machines because folks were always getting infected no matter which AV was installed and he was losing money on it. This is partly due to the abundance of malware here in Brazil, but mostly due to the culture However, he used to keep a record of infections and at my request he ran 12 of these past Ad-Aware and it blocked them all. Possibly other products would have done the same and maybe another 12 would have given different results.

Like most other programs it's slow opening a file full of .exe's or LibreOffice documents which, security issues apart, is one of the reasons why I run Linux 90% of the time. Otherwise I found it simple to set up and stable in use, more so with XP than W7 when occasionally it failed to re-materialize in the tray after an update. The program has just seen a significant upgrade though so maybe this is no longer relevant.

Rarely using Windoze anymore (which is a good thing) but when I do I use Avira despite of all the recent bad press.

With more good appraisals appearing I'm being drawn towards AVG 2012 now. I'll wait for one of the independents to release some data then have a look myself.
