Could anyone shed some light onto what impact FortiClient Lite has on the system?
Or for that matter, any decent reviews that are out there? FortiNet seem to be making an impact recently from what I have seen in recent test results (not that I base my protection solely based on test results, it is a sound basis though). I'm unsure as to whether test results such as those by Virus Bulletin include whole FortiNet suite, and if so how much of an impact just the AV engine has on these results. I'm really only interested in FortiClient Lite, as this is the only free offering by FortiNet as far as I'm aware. Just looking for more info on this product really, as I always like to have other free alternatives to my current set-up. |

I'm finding FortiClient's recent developments rather confusing. This is made worse because since a restructuring of their staff I lost my contact and no one else answers the emails
![]() The full suite (FortiClient Standard) is still available from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Securit...tiClient.shtml I've used this extensively on and off and also recommended it to others, none of whom ever got infected. Resource impact is system specific in terms of hardware and what else you might have installed in it. I found FortiClient Standard to be better than most. The firewall is different in operation to some but is also more flexible for those with the experience to manage it. Unfortunately I have no experience of the new Lite version so can't comment. Again the use of the word "suite" is misleading as with Ad-Aware Internet Security. No wonder folks get confused. I'll be back using Windows again next week so I'll have a look at the Lite version then.

Thanks for your comments. I'm only really interested in the Lite version at the moment, as I'm not too into having 'suites'. Just looking around at alternatives incase MSE and its recent problems with XP ever creap over to Windows 7, however I'm not expecting it to, just nice to have other alternatives incase I do become unhappy with my current setup for whatever reason.
Is nice to know it is one of the better 'suites' though. Will be interesting to see how this new Lite version comes along. |

I don't usually go a bundle on YouTube "tests" but I did look at a couple featuring FortiClient Lite from regular posters yesterday and they don't make very enthralling viewing. I think I'll give this a miss until we see some real independent results for it.

That doesn't seem too promising. Will be interesting to see if they develop it into a more viable option.
Is the FortiClient Standard no longer supported/developed? I can't see anything about it on their site. Is that version you have linked to MC the last one that will be available? After a little more research and your feedback, it seems the AV component is actually pretty weak, and it is the rest of their blocking components that are so strong. |

I'll try peppering their contact links one more time to see if a response is forthcoming.

I can confirm that FortiClient Standard is still going. The installer is the same
as the one for the paid version but during the install, the user chooses the version that wants to use. Right now, I am playing with it , virtualized , only installed the Webfilter but the whole Standard version can be installed. It can be downloaded from here. https://shop.fortinet.com/Showpage.do?page=download Remember, same installer for both versions, paid or free. Bo |
