Unable to install Avast 6

I downloaded and attempted to install Avast 6; during the last portion of the install; the program shuts my machine down and I don't get a good install of the program. I am downloading from the Avast site and my laptop is running Windows Home Premium. I was also using Opera as my browser.

I think you should uninstall Avast and after a reboot , run the Avast clean up
tool, to make sure that Avast is properly uninstalled. Afterward, run a clean
up tool for the antivirus you had previously if it was something different than
Avast. Try to install again.
