Default Question For The "No Real-Time Antivirus" Crew

I've been much happier with my system performance since removing MSE due to the issues the most recent version was exhibiting on both my and my wife's setups.

So, I was wondering what AV you folks use (from time to time) to run an on-demand scan when you just want to ensure your system's health?

I have Hitman Pro (aside from MBAM & SAS) but was wondering if there was an AV (without all the unnecessary bells and whistles) that you would recommend for a good occasional scan.
(Obviously I'm not enthused about the idea of reinstalling MSE...so I'd prefer other options that won't cause lots of potential issues.)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a no real-time AV crew, but i do recommend Comodo Cleaning Essentials (or Trend Micro HouseCall) and Microsoft System Sweeper (or another rescue CD).

Hey blues, for me HMP and MBAM are enough. They have never found anything
but I run a HMP scan when I am going to install something, which is rare.

Dont worry man, you are using SBIE.

We're on the same page as usual, Bo.
Just thought I'd see what other folks do...it's always interesting to see and hear different approaches.

(I also have the VirusTotal uploader or can use Jotti if I really feel insecure about a particular file or app.)

A rescue CD isn't like those other scanners. It works when Windows and malware are inactive.

Understood, J_L but I think you are going in a different direction than I intended with my question and reason for starting this thread.

I can understand why imaging and a rescue cd would be a viable part of one's toolkit but I am specifically asking about on-demand antivirus scans.

Virus Total and Jotti are important for me. For example, I just downloaded the
new slim version of CCleaner, in a few minutes I will do an over the top install
but before doing so, I will upload the file at VT and Jotti just to make sure the
file is OK.

AV Rescue CDs are basically a special on-demand scan, how am I going in a different direction?

I used to run regular on-demand scans (weekly or monthly) on my personal PC for more than a decade and sometimes with more than one product. I stopped because I found them to be a waste of time. I now run on-demand scans if I suspect I have a malware problem.

I only found one problem on my PC. Resident AV only ever picked up one other online problem. So with only two problems in a couple of decades I may not be representative.

Out of curiosity would you mind mentioning what you use? (No worries if you'd rather not for some reason.)
