Default Trojan-Killer.net's unhider.exe - OK?

One of my sites got hit with a trojan coming in off a Yahoo API (maybe with some ads, we think) - it attacks old Java installs on PCs with no security. Avast stops it and most likely you get no issues anyway if you have an updated Java install and all old stuff removed via JavaRa.

However someone with an insecure PC whose machine was trashed (half of C Drive disappeared) says this works:

http[COLON]// trojan-killer[DOT]net/how-to-restore-missing-files-and-folders-after-virus-attack/
[remove spaces inserted to kill the link]

Apparently the attack inserts one of these spyware scanner malwares that tries to make you go to a scam site and download a 'spyware killer' that fixes the immediate issue but most likely also downloads a botnet controller or whatever.

So it looks as if the hidden files are easy to restore - but before I can recommend this fix, ideally it needs checking out by someone who knows what the score is.

Any takers please?

Many thanks in advance.

[edit - hmm, looks like it's a WOT red so I'll neuter the link]

Do you want someone to check out the steps or procedures, in the provided link? But why would you trust the link in the first place, because its rated red on WOT.

If you know what trojan attacked the site, then you should try and search for sites which can be trusted. I would not personally trust a site which is rated red on WOT.

Thats what I'm taking away from what he said. My son picked up one of those fake Anti-Virus programs. He says he just visited a game server and it placed a download window telling him to install the software which he did. These things are getting vicious. Thankfully I had bufferzone installed on his computer and it was easy to deal with.

Well, I have no idea if Trojan Killer has any kind of rep or not. That would be the first thing I guess.

Also I can't say if I fully trust the WOT process to always be right (I've seen sites rated orange that I know are genuinely OK).

But as I know someone who who installed that app and it fixed their issue (apparently), it would be nice to know if they now have a botnet issue
