Anyone ever determined what the "1 pass" or "2 pass" algorithms actually are in File Shredder, mentioned in secure erasing freeware? http://www.fileshredder.org/index.php
One pass of what? All 1's or 0's - or 1 pass of pseudo random data? Big difference. Their web site has a link to "learn more about the algorithms," but leads nowhere for me. Unfortunately, they have no support / contact available. Thanks. |

Hmm, I don't know. But I have other problems with that software.
They does not integrate into 64bit Win7. Is this software only for 32bit? or only for WinXP? I don't know. Even worse: they do not provide I single email contact address on their web page. very poor. I cannot imagine why Gizmo elect this as a recommendation. Peter |

I'm not sure about W7, but File Shredder doesn't integrate into Vista's context menu (after several uninstall / re install attempts). If anyone HAS gotten it to install in context menu, was there any "trick" or did it just "work" for you?
It does SEEM to erase files, but I've not done any testing on the effectiveness of their secure erasing. As you said, there's no documentation & no help. If this is one Gizmo's best picks, secure erasing prgms must be VERY scarce. Thanks. |
