Default Emet

Has anybody here used EMET ? Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit.
If so, what has been your experience with it?

I don't have a direct experience but you could have a look at this article:

Why not? Great title for yet another clone of Ubuntu. They could rename the default browser again, only this time to Wallace, then we could all have a laugh

I really like how simple and set-n-forget it is.
Almost every program can be hardened by it (excl. DropBox and many system processes), with no noticeable side-effects.
It also uses minimal, if any, system resources, and doesn't run in the background.

Here's a good guide on what apps you should include on it: http://rationallyparanoid.com/articl...ft-emet-2.html

Thanks for the link J.L, I had read about this before and seen some videos
but here is the best explanation I seen about it, I will install it in the near
future, hopefully I ll like it.
Do you feel any changes when browsing? Have you use this on Outlook?
If you have, anything noticeably different?

Bo

There's nothing noticeably different, except better security. I haven't used it on Outlook, but it should work fine.

Yes, thanks for this link J.L. - makes more sense now I've had a chance to read something well written about it.

My spare machine is back from the dead again and running XP this time so I'll try try EMET for a while and see how it goes. Other security programs are: Sygate, WinPatrol, ClearCloud and Ad-Aware.

Tnx for this JL.

On W7, I put IE, FF plugins and Open Office under its protection.

On Vista, I have some legacy programs that are end of life that can not be replaced, so I put them under its protection as well. They worked after I added them. Secunia will no doubt still flag them, but at least I know they are less likely to be exploited.

Having reviewed your link, I added Java, Wordpad and Windows Print spool.

I am still looking at what I should do on XP.
