I was looking for a portable AV and ended up finding one on this site. I noticed that someone asked if MSE had a portable offering, but the question was not answered. I went off to find if there was one but I was continually sent to the MS Malicious Malware Removal Tool. One site sent me to the One Care Safety Scanner ... getting closer!
I came across this today... MS runs a portable version of MSE, but it is only available to its corporate clients. It runs from Windows PE and is called Standalone System Sweeper. It is incorporated in the Diagnostic & Recovery Toolset (DaRT) in W7 Enterprise. There is no realtime protection, however it uses the same malware definitions as MSE. |

For all users of this tool, please check this folder: C:\Windows\Standalone System Sweeper
It includes the downloaded program, and all of its definitions, even old ones. Took 1.07 GB of my space! Safe to delete, because the program downloads everything in the first place. I've added a CCleaner include rule (3rd option). Personally, I prefer it over other Rescue CDs, because it uses Windows PE 3.1, and supports more hardware (like my RAID). |
