Default Avast 5.1.864

Avast 5.1.864 has been released. The details about the release can be found here :

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=68564.0

There have been improvements in the behavior shield, and the rootkit engine, besides some other changes/improvements.

I went over to the Avast forum, and there are reports of some issues with this version, particularly with Win7 x64. In most of cases, issues were solved by uninstalling the last version, and then installing the latest version. So, I think I will also follow this, to avoid any possible problems.

I am however also thinking of waiting for a few days to watch the forum, and see how this latest version goes. I may update after a few days, although I have downloaded the setup.

If there are issues at this time, I would suggest you download a fresh
setup installer when you ready to update, don't use the installer that
you have now.

Of course. That is an understood thing. If their are genuine issues, they will release an updated version soon. If that happens, I will download the new setup. If there is no new version, I will install from the setup I have downloaded for the latest version.

They might make changes to the installer and still keep same version number
so regardless whether there is a new version or not I would download a new
setup. Thats what I would do if I was you.

Happy 2011, Anupam

Geaux reminds me of good Cajun soup from New Orleans/Lousiana.
The Saints will be dinner for the Falcons, soon.

Alright Cajun boy from the swamps.

Thanks for the info. Updated through Program Updater and works fine. See that the Behavior Shield is more active now giving you options of ask, block or allow.
Happy New Year to each and everyone !!

Happy New Year to you too Bo.

What you say does not seem logical to me. If they make changes to the installer... means they make changes to the software. And if they make changes to the software, they should update the version, and so there has to be a new version released, and therefore, a new setup.

If there will be a change to the program, it has to be released as a new version. Simple as that. This is what should happen, but I am not aware of the proper process behind all this, so I might be wrong.

I am a logical man and logic says what you are saying but I don't trust 100%
any of the companies that release software. I ll bet that sometimes they do
small fixes that can go unnoticed and still keep same version number. Thats
why I would download a new installer. I am not following Avast so I dont know
what is the bug that you guys are talking about so basically what I am saying
is that I ll rather have a fresh installer, if I can get it, downloaded just before
I ll use it.
