Unhappy Privatefirewall crashed

Hi every one,

I got this problem when I tried out PFW new version 7.0.22.5.
My setup: Defensewall 3.09
Norton Antivirus 2011
Privatefirewall 7.0.22.5
Error discription: Privatefirewall has encountered a problem and will be closed. This problem happened when I tried to run an installation with a Chinese name. I know PFW used to not support Chinese language code and just wanna check out the new version of PFW, to see if the problem has been resolved. My point is how can a security product not support a file with a Chinese name in it. The file can also be a virus. So if I wanna bypass PFW, I just name my vulnerable malware with a Chinese name. How easier can that be! That sounds ridiculous. I always know PFW is one of the most decent firewall product in the world and always wanna give it a try. But how can it disappoint me like this. Hope their staff can resolve it as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Tyler

Thanks for highlighting this.

I've fed your query direct to the CEO at Privacyware and I'll post his response here when it arrives.

Thank you MC, looking forward to the improvement of PFW.

I understand from Greg Salvato at Privacyware that you are also in direct contact with them and that he is currently consulting with his devs over this issue.

Please share the results here for the benefit of others if yours arrive before mine does

That's very kind of them. I appreciate their hard-work. I'll post here as soon as I have the results. Thank you again, MC.

No problem - we're here to serve

I'm aware now that Greg is updating you so as the "valued customer" as opposed to me (someone who just pokes his nose in ) I'll let you keep this thread updated.

Seems to potentially be quite a serious issue you've uncovered here so well done for that and hopefully we can all benefit from the work their dev team is now putting into fixing it

Customer=the king. It's a pity they do not have an active forum their own. Greg just answered me back, saying they will put this issue higher in the priority. As soon as this issue is solved, I believe PFW will be as popular as OP, OA, COMODO and so on in China, country with the biggest population.

Presumably this must also apply to some other languages like Japanese and Thai?

Yep, I guess so. Actually, a efficient way to make PFW world-wide popular and competitive is to make it multi-language supported and at least unicode supported.

Greg says
Quote:
It is not a trivial issue and I suspect we’ll need ~8-10 weeks to properly update the Privatefirewall drivers, test/QA, re-submit to MS Winqual for review/certification and compile new builds.
Hope they can work it out and I can finally feel the magic of PFW.
