I wonder if anyone can advise me? I'm trying for a light but effective protection setup.
I have installed: Avira Antivirus, Threatfire, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware paid version with live protection, and Windows XP firewall activated. I also use Superantispyware as well as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for weekly or when needed scans. Is this enough? or is it too much? ie having both Threatfire and Malwarebytes both resident ie live/on guard? Any and all replies much appreciated Thanks Wekslap |

+1 for WOT (mywot) link and description: "The WOT add-on shows you which websites you can trust for safe surfing, shopping and searching on the web. With the WOT add-on, you can see the website's reputation based on other users' experiences and carefully chosen trusted sources, such as phishing and spam blacklists. You can also rate websites yourself based on your own experiences. The WOT add-on can be installed in the Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari Internet browsers."

I will also suggest Panda USB Vaccine, to turn autorun for USB sticks off, and also for vaccination of newly inserted USB sticks.
You can also add Wondershare TimeFreeze in the kit, as a virtualization software, to test unknown products, or similar things. Its dead easy to use. I can't say about Threatfire, or MBAM both running together real-time, because I don't have knowledge of MBAM real-time protection. Maybe they can conflict, if something which MBAM catches... Threatfire also detects.

it now but maybe try Sandboxie and use it if it does not slow down your system at all. I think the combination of Avira,MBAM and Threatfire is excellent and should keep you clean. Sandboxie, to me, is the finest application I have ever come across and I recommend you try it. Hopefully it will get along with what you have now. If it does and you like it, leave it on. In my opinion you ll get more protection out of Sandboxie than the combined protection you get out of those 3 great pieces of software that you are using now. The first time I ever heard of Sandboxie was watching this videos. There are 3 parts. I think is more important what you hear than what you see in the videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GueXMq-Vyi8 There is plenty reading about Sandboxie when you use Google. Its very easy to learn and use and the best part of it is that it works. Bo |

Light setup with three antimalware applications running in real time? You got to chill out man!! I know what i'm talking about, i tried exactly the same setup about a year ago and my system crashed (wait; i had WinPatrol too ).I don't know if they fixed it, but back then MBAM's real time protection used to slow down the machine pretty noticable. Add to that Threatfire and you get the results. If i were you i would try SBIE and see if i could get along with it. Then i would dump both Malwarebytes and Threatfire. But if you find out that SBIE is not for you, keep at least one of them. Personally i would keep Malwarebytes because it is actively developed and has this IP blocking feature. |
