You reinstalled your os just because your homepage was hijacked? That's kind of overkill. And it wasn't even your primary browser...

Actually there's a way to bypass it by using a shortcut to open IE with a blank page like "C:\...." -nohome.

But wanted that nail to be pulled out, coupled with the Notebook which had been carrying too many junks for years. So that was a good chance to get rid of them altogether with one shot. After reinstalling from the default image of that notebook for the first time, it looked like getting a totally new car with new paint, without any persistent rust and dust which couldn't do away with washing.
