I think the point is that it is a Google feature. So you may not be able just "remove" it. There may be a greasemonkey script or something similar that can do it, but most of us are at a loss because our google searches don't have it. Apparently it is just being tested in certain areas around the internet. If it becomes an official feature, you can be sure that a greasemonkey script will be created to remove it, but since it is a test feature, no one may have bothered yet.
On another note try changing your default google search location, and see if that makes any difference. (For instance try using one of the international search options like http://www.google.com/ncr Where are you located? Country? City?
