Straight from the horse's mouth, 'Emsisoft HiJackFree is a detailed system analysis tool which helps advanced users to detect and remove all types of HiJackers, Malware, Spyware, Adware, Trojans and Worms.'

However, it all depends on what you term 'advanced users'. If you are unsure about proceeding with the use of HiJackFree then there is always Emsisoft's forum for help:

I'm by no means an "advanced" user, so based on that - will pass.

Appreciate your feedback!

i looked at it, it isnt bad... It's just not great. It does what it says it does, but what it does isnt all that great lol. I feel like this is another of those programs that tries to do a little of everything while leaving things out.

I rather have multiple programs that specialize in one area than 1 that does part of what the others do.

What does it misses out?

I mostly use HiJackThis on my system, but I still have HiJackFree, and Anvir Task Manager in my collection, and I use them occasionally, as these programs are good too. They are intended for use by advanced users though.

i just rather use sysinternals' autoruns for autoruns list, and process hacker for ports and services and processes
the for the others tabs i have a collection of things like shmnview and shexview and hijackthtis.

For the most part, process hacker alone can replace this for your daily needs of monitoring network/services/processes. The autoruns and other tabs don't change daily so I just run those other things when I need to change something

Ah, so you are one of the advanced users . Yea, the programs you mentioned are good. I use Autoruns rarely, although I have it on my system. I have Process Hacker too, but don't use it. I ran Process Hacker just now, and it seems good. One thing I found lacking though, is the file path of the process. I like process viewers who show the file path of the process. Sometimes, malware run by the name of a genuine process, and this can be found out by looking at the file path. So, I like to be able to see the path. Still, some good information there though.

I have WinPatrol installed on my PC, so it serves most of my needs, and Scotty keeps a watch too . I regularly check WinPatrol, and HiJackThis.

I use Trend Micro IS addition to SAS and MBAM. I'm concerned about trojans squirreling into my system which I understand is not easily detected.

Although I'm a novice user, I've had ambitious moments to get in over my head, screw up then have to delete my futile efforts.

odd my process hacker shows the file path when you mouseover it, or double click it and it is on first tab under commandline. A nice thing with process hacker is it lets you send processes to virustotal to be scanned. it might be one of the plugins but its there. I have it replacing task manager and let it run all the time.

a benefit of letting it run is it shows me my cpu usage which i like to monitor. plus it also tells me when drivers/processes/services are loaded/unloaded which is good if you think you might be infected.
edit: plus its portable I just like portable apps as well.
