I see that zone alarm free gets 9 out of 10 rating from Gizmo's. Please read this http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...+free+firewall and also this http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=75332 |

IMO it's necessary to separate the marketing hype from the test result they also link to. On the assumption that this is correct then you would expect most commercial vendors to capitalize on the fact that their product can detect something which others can't. Admittedly the method of promoting this will be distasteful to a lot of folks but in fact it's no different to the tactics employed by Prevx at one time (on a much larger scale
) and ThreatFire with it's zillions of % extra protection blah, blah, blah ![]() In effect it's like any other nag. If you don't like it you can ignore it or swap to something else if it bugs you that much. I guess PC Tools will get some spin off from this as folks change so at least they will be happy

I feel like the average user is going to misinterpret this as stating that they are indeed infected. IMO, it is now scareware. There delivery is terrible and if you are computer illiterate, you will most definitely think you are infected. Just my opinion

From this perspective I have to agree and from the traffic on their forum they might even be regretting this themselves now.

personally i feel like these tactics shouldn't be allowed/legal... It's like if I went and made a virus and made it so my product would detect it then didn't share the virus with anyone so no one would be able to claim it.
