Default Comodo Internet Security RC2

A second RC for CIS 5 was released late yesterday so I thought I'd give it a spin.

What's New in build 1120?

IMPROVED! CIS status messages - CIS now reports if some of the subsystems are disabled or if its in game mode
IMPROVED! CIS now scans running applications in the computer during the installation in the cloud before the reboot
IMPROVED! More protected registry keys are added
FIXED! CIS does not work properly with some windows 7 mobile broadband cards
FIXED! CIS does not properly check unrecognized files/vendors in the cloud
FIXED! CTM snapshotting does not work with CIS
FIXED! Sandboxed applications are not shown properly in the active process list
FIXED! Many crashes related to CIS UI

I've linked the download to Softpedia because I find the Comodo site more and more difficult to navigate.

Anyone with a more in depth knowledge of the Comodo forum than me please correct but I believe that the decision to release a second RC was made primarily to check for possible issues relating to the inclusion of new protected registry keys for Windows 7.

First impressions were why isn't it working because I'm not getting any alerts?
Second impressions were read the data first because this is how it's been developed! Third impression was why can't they make the Dragon GUI this sharp and convert us all away from Chrome and Iron?

Anyway, usability has gone up a huge amount since V4 and a lot of waverers from previous versions will now find this much more to their liking. Alerts are now minimal to say the least, although the ability to dive into the advanced settings still exists for those who want it.

I'm not sure what "goodies" might be included with the final version but I didn't have to un-check anything at install and there is nothing with two heads running in my processes as a result

I know I suggested that "maybe this was it" when V4 was released and then we had a splurge of issues that a lot of folks could have done without. From my limited catch up reading on their forum though it appears that a lot of feedback has been incorporated into the V5 RC's and it shows in what I'm seeing so far.

I'll leave it on here for a while and let you know how I get on. Not the best of test machines though at the moment because a power surge yesterday has left me needing a new regulator box and (after a system rescue) with a distinctly "wobbly" Windows

MC--a couple questions:

1. Any idea of stability of this new version with MSE?
2. If I decided to give it a try, should I uninstall or deactivate Winpatrol Plus first?

Naturally Comodo has a huge following not only on their own forum but in other places too so there is quite a lot of data in circulation to digest. From what I've seen though the RC1 has been behaving exceptionally well so the RC2 should be better still.

If we're talking about the beta version of MSE which has Windows firewall integration then I have seen a couple of posts suggesting problems with Comodo & MSE even with Windows firewall disabled. I'm running the whole suite including AV this time so I can't offer any personal experience.

There will be a large amount of redundancy with Comodo and WinPatrol running together but I still have my Plus version installed and so far no ill effects. If it was a resource eater or temperamental then maybe I'd take it off but for now I'm happy to leave it alone.

Believe it or not the only thing I don't like about the new CIS is the tray icon. The icon itself is fine but being red they've had to change the color of the blocked traffic indicators to a sickly yellow which looks a bit dumb to say the least. The pizzas must have just arrived when the devs thought that one up ZoneAlarm and PCTools know how to turn out tray icons, why couldn't we have one like that?
