I've been using Opera as my main browser since it first went completely free (ie. removed the ad banner) - it has all the features I really need built in or available with a little customisation, and I especially like the email client. I'm so used to it now, and have it set up just how I want it, that consequently I don't have the desire to change browsers unless Opera somehow falls way behind, or changes significantly for the worse. |

Here is the download and info link for Alpha 10.
http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ I've used it daily ever since December and the only bugs I've encountered are; a) An occasional black page when switching between tabs which is only momentary. b) An occasional tendency for the page not to scroll Other than that V fast and stable. Love the email feature too with all my accounts manageable from the same source while I'm still surfing. The Alpha version even improves on this too. I'm not a huge lover of fancy skins but I use the "United" theme because it's clean, simple and functional. Don't worry about trying this out in place of your existing Opera because it will automatically install into a separate directory with it's own shortcut. Good idea to change one of the icons though so you don't confuse the versions (like I did!)

Thanks for the info on Opera 10 - I'll give it a tryout and let you know how I find it.
I had a quick Google for Minefield and a number of comments suggest it's certainly fast although I suspect the only true way to compare browsers on an even playing field is when they are officially released. PS. I like a clean uncluttered layout too - I use a modified version of the plastikopera skin. |

The only thing I recall from using this in the past is that you can't download executables with it, or rather you can but they won't run.

Just a quick update regarding Opera 10 Alpha -
Simple to install alongside current version, took all my personal profile settings copied over from Opera 9.64 successfully and without any noticeable problems. Also seems perfectly stable. My initial impression is that it feels only marginally quicker than 9.64 although this could simply be down to my particular setup, and to the websites I visit. Nothing radically new about it with regards usage although the enhanced spell checking is a nice addition. Recommended. |

Don't mean to be a nonconformist but I don't see BufferZone listed as a choice. I just checked and BufferZone Pro is still free http://www.trustware.com/ I have it installed on my sons computer and knock on wood no viruses.
