sure made me a happy camper. I will leave PFW in this training mode for a few days then I will harden it up a bit by going into settings and use "Manual Control" and disable "auto response".....just want to make sure the Avast virus auto updates keep on working first though. Hope this all helps. By the way I am in XP Pro SP3 32bit and have a cable connection and router. Anothermac...I gave up on Online Armor. It just didn't play well with my system. A better alternative for me awhile back was Outpost free which I found to work well with my system as well. Kind of leery about that program also as they don't seem to update it so am staying with PFW for now. Cavehomme ....PCTFWbeta showed my "cable name and address" as "untrusted" when I first installed PCTFW so I don't know if that would be the same as home or public or not. Best would be to ask in the PC Tools forum. Me personally am going to stick with Private Firewall for now. I hope you all didn't find this post confusing.

Hi,
I noticed yesterday that the "Best Free Firewall" Article was among those recently updated and thought that the news about PC Tools Firewall Plus being discontinued would be now included, but it's not. Shouldn't it?

I am not an expert but I would have assumed that it is best to use 'untrusted'. To my understanding 'Trusted' would be if you are linked to a secure network (and some other firewall or router guarding your link to the outside). Donno if you are having such a Trusted Home network or not, but if not and directly linked to outside I would make the profile 'Untrusted' Brgds anothermack |

Symantec have done it yet again... trashed a wonderful free product.
PC Tools Firewall retiring is a sad news, because the firewall was quite good. Anyways, on 31st Aug, the PC Tools Firewall page was showing that the firewall is retiring. Today, when I accessed the page, there is no such notice. I was confused if they were really retiring the firewall. So, I looked up in their forum, and got this post. : Quote:
This page also shows PC Tools Firewall as retired product : http://www.pctools.com/support/answers/id/2521/ Anyways, I don't think that many users who know about the retirement of the firewall will be using it anymore. They will go for another free firewall. But, people who like the firewall, or don't know about the retiring might still use the version 7.0. Goodbye PC Tools Firewall from me.
