This information for anyone else currently being annoyed by the DriveSentry
update/upgrade screen. This response to my email received from them today. "However, we appreciate this can be somewhat annoying and will be revising the process in the near future".

DriveSentry will be releasing a brand new suite in around 4-6 weeks time. They are understandably unwilling to reveal any details at the moment which may be of use to competitors. As soon as I know more I'll post it here.
Recent tests of DriveSentry, although not conducted by the "popular" figures in this category, are very encouraging. Check out this link..... http://www.virus.gr/portal/en/conten...ntiantispyware ...and also the various DriveSentry threads on Wilders. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...t=drive+sentry http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...t=drive+sentry http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=239826

The value of a lot of tests can be described as "dubious" depending on your perspective. Comodo's CEO Melih was saying this only yesterday about Matousec and a lot of people agree with him. This thread is one of the many you will see arguing the pros and cons of Matousec testing.
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/archi.../t-208511.html Matousec himself also did a very good job here of dismembering the Checkmark Desktop Firewall Certification given by West Coast Labs to Rising firewall last year. http://www.matousec.com/matousec/blog.php The internet is full of information and as I have said before, I leave it up to individuals to determine the relevance of what they read.

Yes, you are pretty much guaranteed to have conflicts with KIS sooner or later.
DriveSentry is due to be released in a new format shortly so you might want to wait a while then decide if you want to try this or keep KIS.

There have been more rumblings recently on Wilders, DriveSentry's own forum and other places about the lack of response from the company regarding current status and future development.
This is the latest response from DriveSentry. "rootkit protection will be in Security Suite - The lifetime license is correct, there is no annual subscription and the software never expires so you get lifetime signature updates. - We are planning another independent test once we have implemented some changes to our signature updates (Basically we are introducing technology which will capture new signatures a lot faster). This is likely to be September time. - We are finalizing a new build of Desktop at the moment, this new version will be completely free (no trickle feed signature updates), existing customers who purchased the desktop upgrade will retain trickle feed when they install the new version. Desktop is based on the same codebase as SecuritySuite (since SecuritySuite is essentially desktop with extra features and GoAnywhere bundled with it) - so we will be maintaining both" So, it appears we are still some weeks away from getting anything new. At least the free offering is to be retained although it looks like having to be updated manually.

Drive Sentry have just released V3.4.0.20 of their free desktop version. There are no new features but I'm informed that improvements have been made to existing components in several areas.
Users of the previous version please note that there are no time limited automatic updates as before. From V3.4 the free version requires updating manually.

Does Drivesentry still exist?
I have been trying to register on their own forum for 3 weeks now - still cant get them to accept new registrations necessary for me to ask about 64-bit version. I was running Drivesentry successfully on my old XP laptop (alongside various other security products including AVG antivirus, Trendmicro RU Botted, Zonealarm, Malwarebytes and Prevx2 without any difficulties whatsoever) but that has finally packed up and a month ago i purchased a new laptop running 64 bit Windows 7. I downloaded the latest version of Drivesentry (3.4.0.20) but it wont install and on the forums I find the same fault reported on 64 bit Vista a year or so back and the upshot is Drivesentry dont do 64 bit software. All attempts at contacting them via email (am in UK so wont be phoning them!) have been ignored. Trying to get in touch via their own forums is similarly a dead end. Do they still exist? if they do then it wont be for long if they refuse to go down the 64-bit route. Already Windows 8 is being talked about as being 128 bit so if they stick to 32 their company has a very very limited future. |
