I installed the latest version 6.0.0.84 just now. On installation, and after restart... the firewall first detected the network. On clicking OK, my PC just hanged. I had to restart the PC manually. Didn't find any clue in Event Logs as to why this happened. On restart, the PC was working normally.
The problem with the earlier version remains the same with this version too. I was initially not able to connect to my ISP, or internet, and I had to follow the steps as suggested over at PC Tools Forum to get my connection up and running. I also just had a reply over at my thread at PC Tools Forum, that they had discovered a bug in the version 6.0.0.81, and maybe the newer version will solve this problem. I have replied to the thread there with my experience above... and told them the problem still remains. I saw another user complain of not being able to connect to VPN with the latest version of the firewall. A user has also complained of not being able to connect to the ISP with version 6.0.0.81, on the main site in Best Free Firewall article. I have guided him to the thread on PC Tools Forum for solution. I think some changes have been made to the firewall with the version 6.0.0.81, which are causing these problems. Hopefully, they will get hold of the problem or bug, and solve it soon. kendall, did you update to the latest version yet... and if yes, did you encounter any problem?

I upgraded to 6.0.0.84 last night. I upgraded rather than uninstall and re-install. It works fine other than most of my rules did not carry over for the HIPS-like portion. I am having to re-allow most of my processes. For example, I came down this morning to find that both the Avast auto-update and the Avast screensaver did not run last night because I had to "allow" them.
Other than that, it works like a charm. I upgraded specifically so I could save my ruleset to avoid this from happening. However, I may not have paid close attention to the installation and clicked no when I should have clicked yes or vice-versa. So, it might be my own dang fault.....

Thanks for the reply kendall.
When 6.0.0.81 was out, I had also updated it over the previous version... but still I faced problems. Its good that you did not had to face any problems with your new version installation. I think the problem occurs for some setups. About the rules, I am not sure why that happened. I think it must be because of something in the new version. I don't remember seeing anything while installation, that might change rule settings. You updated over the old version, and the rules should not change on their own. Anyways, its good all is working well for you. Meanwhile, today I got a reply on PC Tools Forum that 6.0.0.84 indeed does not fix the bugs of previous version. I think they will do that in the next version.

Seems like I have a problem with latest PC Tools firewall update also. The activity window is not showing all the connected applications, i.e. yahoo messenger and msn messenger even though I have them both logged in as can be seen in task bar. I noticed someone else is having the same problem as posted in PC Tools forum. I think I am going back to Comodo firewall for now. |

Shame on you Anupam?! Where's your loyalty?! Now, you're deserting me too?!
(I'm just joking.....) In all seriousness, other than having to click "allow" a lot more since my upgrade (and with programs that I had previously allowed in the previous version), I've had no issues with the new version.

Comodo Internet Security is awesome for experienced users. No need for anything else other than perhaps something that virtualises the entire OS. However the main problem with CIS as with any other firewall, with high performance characteristics, is that it won't work as smoothly as expected in every system environment. Everyone has some specific environment built in his OS and a highly sensitive firewall can give some nasty surprises at times to a specific end-user.
