Hi,
I have licenses for A2 anti-malware and Online Armor firewall, courtesy of Gizmo's. Is anyone using these two apps together for their real-time solution? If the two cover virus, malware and firewall then I may be tempted to use just the two of them. Dogpile

Dogpile,
Up until the recent offer from Bullguard I was using both the OA firewall and A2 (both paid versions courtesy of Gizmo offers). Both worked well together and I was impressed by OA. A2 has a lot of pop-ups but works well to complement your AV security. I still use A2 along with Bullguard and have for on-demand Avira, Malwarebytes and Superantispy. A2 can use a it of resources at times and sits around 14,180K in idle mode. As long as you are prepared to investigate each popup and create a rule you should be fine. I would still use a virus scanner and possibly Avira or look for the offers on this forum. Eset and others have offers at times for 6 month trails etc. Gizmo has another offer coming in Xmas so look out for that one. BTW Avira plays well with both OA and A2. Hope this helps. |

Right now I installed both A2 and OA paid. Microsoft Security scanner detects
A2 as anti-virus. I would add Avira to the mix, but the other day it was updating and was downloading at 3.0 kb/sec and it was a 8.2MB file. It was almost like I had a 2400 or 1200 baud modem ![]() I will try and download again and hope for the best.

I am learning that free offerings of commercial software does not mean that the software is good. It seems that the developers include all these info and warning screens to make one feel the software is watching your system. (why not just do this in the background) They want the customer to feel they are fully protected. In reality all that's being done is an incredible drain of resources. Yes, you can reduce many of those splash screens in the options menu but I haven't been able do away with them completely.
After trying the highly touted bullguard security suite I finally uninstalled it because it slowed my computer to a crawl. For example it took 3 times as long to open firefox. When opening a directory with a large number of files it took minutes to fully open. I also experienced this problem With the free premium version of AVG. Finally after installing A-square I again starting getting all those splash screens reassuring me it was on the job. Again I believe for the vast majority of users those splash screens are unnecessary. Perhaps only the most security conscious users would find them useful. This new breed of security software in my opinion is a fad. I envision truly smart software that will still do the job but with a very small footprint. I am back with Avira, Sunbelt firewall (behind a router) and Iobit 360 Pro. I am happy to say I am back to smooth sailing and have no plans on looking back. I realize now I don't need all the bells and whistles. Cheers Wdhpr |

Thats a good question Anupam.
I was recently prompted to update to a newer version of Iobit 360. Its very light weight with no slowing down of my system. Problem is I could not find a list of changes. hmmm Also Iobit's website has yellow wot rating. Not sure whats going on. After doing a little looking it seems Iobits getting slammed for Stealing Malwarebyte's Intellectual property I have been using Iobit software for a year or so and have liked a couple of their products. Out of the loop? Perhaps
Security software engines have been duplicated for ever. When has the last security product been written from the ground up? http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1552 So does this then make the product inadequate. Yes I agree it is unethical to steal a data base. I am not ready to throw the baby out with the bath water yet. Better yet when is the last time you paid for one? Cheers Wdhpr |

As much as I liked, or had started to like IObit Security, but in view of the recent events, I uninstalled and deleted the software from my PC, and from my cousin's PC too.
All the major download sites have removed IObit Security from their site. IObit had taken off the download from their site for some days. The software returned with a new version 1.20 which was hosted on techspot. Now, today when I checked on IObit site, the latest version is 1.30... not hosted anymore on techspot... and the description now contains : with a whole new database. All these do not put the company in a favorable position IMO.
