Every time or the other, critical vulnerabilities are being discovered in Adobe products, be it the pdf reader, or flash. There are now good alternatives available to pdf reader. Some alternative should be available now, to Adobe Flash. Since Adobe Flash is so widespread on the internet, this unpatchable vulnerability will put a whole lot of users on risk.

Thanks... but those are alternatives to building flash videos and objects. I was talking about an alternative to flash used on webpages. I don't think we would be having an alternative to that very soon.

We certainly need more choice. Silverlight doesn't seem to have been adopted by many except for some of Microsoft's web sites. I have been thinking this very same thing about this lately. All the websites on the web that use animation, probably 99% use flash and the rest use quicktime, silverlight, wmp, etc.
All the users of 64bit windows have to use 32bit browsers because there are no 64bit plugins for flash. I wish some other organization would come out and compete against adobe on this issue.

HTML5?

HTML5 aims to reduce the use of proprietary plug-in-based rich Internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Sun JavaFX, though it would take many years to do so.

Yeah I read that article, like the quote said: "though it would take many years to do so". I guess we are stuck with what we have in the near term.

Yup, the "many years" thing does not give much to cheer about .
