Default PC Tools Firewall 6.0.0.81

New version of PC Tools Firewall 6.0.0.81 has been released, and is available from the PC Tools website.

I had the previous version of PC Tools installed i.e. 6.0.0.74. Today I installed the new version. After installation, and a restart, it first detected my network and identified it correctly. But, after that I was not able to connect to the internet.

I have to use a program to login to my ISP server, after which I am able to access the internet. Even after allowing the program, the program was not able to connect to the server. Even a ping to the server did not work... but I could see the incoming and outgoing packets increase.

I then uninstalled the firewall, and after a restart, everything was back to normal.

I gave it a try two times. First time, installing the new version over the old one... and second time, uninstalling the old version, and then installing the new version. Both times, I could not connect to the internet.

Its a pity, since I had been using PC Tools Firewall without a trouble for long time. Seems like I might have to try another firewall now. I am not installing it again, until a new version is released. They do not even have release notes on their site to see what changes are there in the new version. If someone can find it, please share it here.

From my experience... I would advise people who would install the new version of PC Tools Firewall to do it with caution. Keep the setup of old version with you, in case you experience problems with the new version.

Please share here, your experiences with the new version... good or bad.

I had had the 74 version of pc tools firewall plus and it seemed to block avast from updating for a couple of days. Finally had to manually update avast. I have since moved back to comodo firewall only and have no problems. It works very well with avast. Also tried O/A, outpost, private but always come back to comodo D+. And no am not a "comodo fan boy" I stay away from all the forum politics there.

I have avast on my PC, and I did not had any problem with the updates. I think you may have to look under the application settings, and allow the Avast updates.

I have used Comodo before, and in my opinion, it is a solid choice. Its not for normal or novices though. If you can use Comodo, its the best choice out there amongst the many free firewalls present. Firewall is solid, and HIPS is solid too. System resources used are also very less.

I don't use it mainly because of the increased setup size of Comodo recently. That puts me off. Further, I am not very much interested in the Comodo antivirus, or the HIPS component... I just want a firewall. I know I can turn off the components I don't want, but well... that's just me .
Anyways, can you tell me what size it occupies on the hard disk when installed? I have a small hard disk presently(just 8 GB), and space is of matter to me.

I assume that is hard drive space and not RAM utilization?!

Thanks for the information Torresmagnifico ... that was what I needed to know. That's a lot of space, and I can't install Comodo Firewall right now on my system... it would take up precious space.

Free Disk Analyzer says 64.7 MB for Comodo Firewall only not including AV. I don't know how much Outpost is. I used that firewall for awhile but seemed to be a bit of a lag when using firefox. I still like the comodo and the avast combo. Will upgrade to avast 5.0 when it comes out of beta.

Thanks for the info. I am also waiting eagerly for Avast 5.

PC Tools served my purpose well as a lightweight firewall until now. I don't know what changes they did, but it isn't working for me now. I think some problem when it first detects the network.
