Default Comodo Internet Security

Given confidence by the performance of the firewall and D+ (Proactive Security) in my Vista 64 system, at the weekend I enabled the AV component as well. I wasn't too impressed with the whopping 103mb extra download required and can't help wondering why Comodo haven't worked out a new system for this yet.

Anyway, first scan (full) with default settings (heuristics low) took just over 30 minutes and produced one FP which was a component from my Code Stuff 'Starter' program. The AV database is updating regularly without any problems and the firewall module also took a hefty update without issue which has not always been my experience in the past.

Next time I run a scan I'll push the heuristics up a notch to medium and report what happens then.

On Vista Ultimate 64 it peaks at just over 9k after boot and then falls back to around 3k with the machine idle but connected. As I'm mainly using my Ubuntu partition for everything now I've yet to record what CIS climbs to after some prolonged surfing or during a scan. I will remember to make a note of this next time though and post these other figures here for you.

Simple folks. Do not use and or install any product from COMODO. IMHO this company is a sleaze factory. Pass this advise along to as many people as you know and post it on as many sites as you can.

Thanks

Sorry, but as much as the company's shadier side becomes uncovered online, no one can reasonably deny the fact that their products are quality freeware, period.
It's really not that simple, plus most businesses are like that nowadays, except they don't usually provide their full products for free.

OK, thanks. I'm just keen to find out as much as possible about the free AV options at the moment - I'm mostly very happy with Avast!, although I was experiencing computer slow-down when it boots (because of it's default rootkit scan - I just disabled it in the end) and when it does a scan.

No problem - if only a few other people would do some research before loading stuff they might have fewer problems afterwards.

To be frank, I'm using a new 64 bit system and Vista is also new to me and I want to be sure I'm giving you the right data. I can't get CIS to use any more than 5k whatever I do with it, and usually it's half this. There might be a process I'm missing though somewhere so I've contacted Comodo for the exact details. Melih has referred my query to Egemen who is the dev responsible for this area and as soon as he replies I'll post here.

OK - as I said still getting to grips with vista and now know that what I was reading was for cfp only and not cmdagent as well.

Combined use at normal state for both components on my system is just into double figures. Usage during scanning varies enormously between 15k and 60k depending on which part of the system CIS is in at the time. Hope this information helps.

"Several issues were brought to light about Comodo over the past lord knows how long, and the latest incident, as with many before it, concern their SSL certs. In this case, Melih's defense is that these are DV certs, and thus do not require "validation" as to the identity of the person obtaining such - this might be the case, but when your tag line is "Creating Trust Online", your defense should NOT be to try and slag off those bringing such to light, or telling them to get in touch with someone else to get this sorted out - IT IS YOUR COMPANY, YOUR CERTIFICATES - YOUR PROBLEM!"

Taken from a WOT post.

According to the Security Garden, Comodo previously would install the Ask.com toolbar, however, had promised to remove the Ask toolbar from their installer (which they did), but, now it has been replaced by HopSurf.

Taken from BestTechie.Net

Thank you gentlemen for clarifying for our members. Calendar of Updates also has Comodo blacklisted ... as does it here: http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2009/07...you-decide.html - Corrine is with the Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals and considered a most reliable source.

IMHO this company should be blacklisted at Gizmo's as well.

For your info. HopSurf requires one to be 18 or older to use. Why? Could it contain adult material?

Thanks
