If you want a simple CD ripper, I will suggest Fair Stars CD Ripper. It can be found here : http://www.fairstars.com/cdripper/ In FairStars Ripper, the options are quite easy to set up, visible in the interface screen, on RHS. There you can set the output format, output folder, and output filename, and you are done. For further assistance, I will request you to please register on the site, and post in the forum, as its difficult to answer such queries here. Thank you Anupam for the FairStars tip. I've used it and it is indeed much simpler to use than EAC and, I believe, all that I need at the moment. However, the documentation is pretty meager and that leaves a cd ripping noob with questions. I wonder if you, or someone, would advise me on what to do with the "Option" dialog after selecting MP3? Specifically, in the "Bitrate Setting" I am asked to select the VBR method by choosing from a dropdown menu that includes: CBR (which seems to contradict the whole idea of VBR), Default, Old, New, MTRH and ABR. Following that selection, one must select Minimum Bitrate and Maximum Bitrate, the choices for which range from "Auto" to 320 Kbps. I have no idea which of these to select in the context of VBR and there is no guidance whatsoever in the Help file, that I can find. I would greatly appreciate, therefore, any help I can get here. Thank you very much. |

Hi Smitty, welcome to the forum. Good to see you here, and thanks for registering
.I am glad you like FairStars CD Ripper. You are right about the bitrate setting. It should have just said bitrate, rather than VBR... because it includes a CBR in it. This was not a good way to set option on their part. I am sorry, I do not have experience with VBR, and its settings, and I don't know about it. But, I think CBR is the way to go here, regardless of the fact that it is provided in a drop-down list which says VBR. You should just choose CBR, and then choose the BitRate which you want to choose. Then, the mp3 file will have a constant bitrate. All other settings are for different types of VBR(Variable BitRate) I suppose. I choose CBR whenever I rip a CD. I hope this helps. Maybe someone else who has knowledge of VBR can explain something better than me.

I have one more suggestion, which you can check out.
Koyote CD Ripper which can be found here : http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html Look for the Free CD Ripper under Audio Tools. I find it easy too. Although, its interface is not as easy as FairStars Ripper, but it its still easy. It has separate settings for CBR, and VBR, and in that respect, its not confusing. File name options can be changed via Option --> Configuration. Mp3 settings can be changed via Option --> Compressed Format Configuration(MP3 OGG)
