I used Windows Explorer on Win7 to copy a few mp3 and mp4 files from the hard disk to a USB drive for playback on a mobile device. The playback on the mobile was not smooth and looked very choppy. Tried a few times and experienced the same. I thought my device had a problem.
I turned to Ubuntu's file browser Nautilus to copy the same mp3 and mp4 files to the same usb drive, the playback of the files on the mobile device was then smooth with no choppy noises. What could be the cause for that?

I don't know for sure. Fragmentation maybe? Maybe Windows jigsawed the file to make it fit in somewhere, while Linux found a better place for it? I am probably way off on that, but it is the only thing I can think of.
I had a slide presentation I created once that I converted to an flv. After I moved it to my laptop, I had all kinds of trouble with it running slow and choppy. Then one day it hit me what was going on and I ran defraggler on just the flv file. After that it ran perfectly smooth.
