Holiday vids are vlc

Hi,
i have taken some holiday vids with two camera's. when i downloaded the vids onto the computer one of them is a vlc file.i downloaded the player,but i want to put he films on disc for safekeeping and to show family on my regular dvd player.I tried looking on the internet, bnut the language for someone of my experience is too foreign.Can anyone give me a simple solution. Media player and even iwisoft video converter doesnt even see them in the files.

Sounds strange to me.

Some questions -

1) What is the make of the camera that's producing the movies that you can't play?

2) Does the camera come with software that needs to be installed from a CD?

3) Did you have vlc player installed on your PC before you transferred the movies from the camera?
