Default converting to dvd

Im trying to make a dvd for my brothers birthday. I got till september 19th and i no that what i have to do will take a while so im trying to get started now but im having problems.

I have a file in .mkv format that has 3 audio streams i read on other pages that to burn it to dvd i need to convert it to .avi with only one audio stream and only 3 programs can do this (AVS video converter, ultra mkv converter, ultra video converter) none are freeware. I downloaded AVS video converter i could not see how it was different from FormatFactory.

Oringinally i was converting them to .MP4 encoding to MPEG(Dvix) so that i can watch them on my phone before burning them to dvd to make sure they would work, They didn't. I think because of the 3 audio streams. But .AVI wont work on my phone so i'd have to convert it to .avi then to .mp4

can anyone tell me if format fatory could remove audio streams?
Also do .mkv files have to be burned to dual layer disks?

I found a solution it's a very long winded process though.

I explain how just in case someone else looks for this.

I downloaded MKVtoolnix, MKVExtractGUI & MKVE Wizard Freeware

After installation i uses MKVExtractor to extract the Video & Audio i needed
I then used MKVMerger to merge the two i needed back together to make another .MKV file I am now using Format Factory to Convert the .MKV to .MP4 so that i am able to watch it on my phone and then if its all ok will burn to DVD.

Although im a bit worried about merging the two files i need back to one .MKV file i dont want the audio out of sync.

I'll check back when im done and update if i was sucessfull

I may have missed something... It creates the file ok and works on my computer with vcl media player with soud in sync but when i transfered it to my phone to watch it was unable to play...

The only reason i transfer it to play on my phone is because i no if it works on my phone it will work on his ps3 or dvd player.

Anyone no what im missing?

Although it will make the video file much larger (less compression), you can try these programs: http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...g-software.htm
I'm pretty sure the resulting discs will work with any dvd player.

JL As far as im aware if i use dvd flick to burn the .mkv files to dvd they wont work on a dvd player or ps3, thats why iv been trying to convert them to .avi or .MP4

After getting really annoyed converting, re encoding numerous times over many hours! i failed.... i could not play any of the formats on my phone and the reason still evades me, But i decided to sacrifice a DVD used dvd styler to put all the conversions onto one disc and all of them worked on my xbox with no problems. So in a way i was sucessfull I can get the result i want, and i assume it will play on his ps3 but it will definitly play on his dvd player.
