Default Free music download

I don't know quite how these guys have got around it but Spotify is a good place to find a huge range of free music to download.

http://www.spotify.com/en/

There's a couple of problems which are a bit annoying but for free music I don't think you can complain:

The music can only be played whilst logged on to their site - you keep your own playlist on there, a bit like gmail
Unable to download on to iPod
after every few songs advertising for new albums comes on
If you open a new window it often starts the song you are listening to again from the start

You can pay and have no ads.

If anyone knows if it's possible to override it and change the format from spotify to Windows media please shout and let me know as then I may be able to keep them on my computer.

They have a huge range of music, there was only one track that I couldn't find - Ralph Mctell Streets of London, though they do have the Roger Whittaker version

I may be very open minded and couldn't give a diddlysquat what people think...most of the time...but sometimes you have to draw a line...apologies to all you Whistling Whittaker fans but no, I couldn't seriously put that version on my playlist and have him pop up after Debbie Harry.

It may be full of spyware but if you know anything about it please post.

Thank ye

It has already been suggested here:
Spotify - free legal music solution

The free option is not available here in India, and I think in many countries.

Thanks Anupam, I tried looking for it before posting but obviously I didn't search well enough!

Default Limewire

I don't see much on this site about Limewire. It was recommended to me, so I downloaded it and installed it. It wanted Java Runtime Environment upgraded. That was bigger than the program.

But it seems to work ok.
And the Limewire community seems to be rather a large community.

I'm kinda wondering if people here are generally avoiding it for some reason.

G'day -dz

It's not recommended here:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...g-torrents.htm
Limewire has suffered over the years from accusations of virus spreading and the provision of poor quality files and fakes. But things change, and for all I know it may be perfectly satisfactory now. This has to be a personal decision, but I'd never use it and I don't like the combination of both a free and a paid service.

Frostwire is an excellent alternative to limewire...

It uses the same basic network, doesn't come with a bunch of junk like limewire used to, has excellent speeds and supports torrents and iTunes as well....of course in staying with the theme of this site it is completely free (open Source)...

http://www.frostwire.com

It has been mentioned here http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...g-torrents.htm (near the bottom) as not being recommended but I find that it works well for me. "A ciascuno il suo": To each his own

Note - as with all things computer, use caution and savvy when downloading anything from any site or application. Some of the things you find or download may contain viruses or may be under copyright and thus illegal to download and use without purchasing.

Hello Elizabeth,

Whilst available in the UK, Spotify is not as yet available here across the pond. If their audio loads into the browser (IE, Firefox, Opera or Chrome), try VideoCacheView from NirSoft - http://www.nirsoft.net/; or, their WebVideoCap might allow you to actually capture the stream (both freeware).

Another UK site worth a look (one which does work here) is Last FM - http://www.last.fm/ (though you'll run into similar issues downloading).

Cheers,

AJ

My favorite music site is Pandora. However, I haven't found a way to download the songs yet. You can create various "stations". For example, I have a Smooth Jazz station, a 80's Classic Rock station, a Classical station, etc.

I have used LimeWire with no problems. The files were good quality and I never got one with a virus. FrostWire would never work for me.

I have tried Pandora and it would never play the songs I liked.
