Default 1by1 - audio player

Anyone using this ? It must be the smallest mp3 player I've ever come across.
Lots of settings, sounds brilliant and it's only 100kb in size. I've been using it for a few days and can't believe how good it sounds.

The 1by1 website is here

There's a detailed review at Softpedia here. The review is for an earlier version, current version is 1.6.8.0

It's perfect for carrying on a USB.

Ok, the reason I asked if anyone is using this is because I don't seem to be able to save some of the settings. I found it on here, this website, Gizmo's.. it's here.

It's listed under 'Other Music Players and Tools', and in the short review it says that it's a popular option, so I just assumed someone here might be using it, or had used it in the past. I downloaded it to use in my CodySafe but once I'd tried it I installed it on here as well because it sounds so good, but the thing is, I just don't seem to be able to find a way of saving the sound settings.. or even know if it's supposed to save them.

Anyone ??.. if not I'll persevere and see if I can fathom it out.

Cheers.

Please be more specific. There are a lot of settings for the player. Which ones are you not able to save?

Hi, Anupam.. yes, it's the settings in 'Enhancer'. If I check the box for 'prelisten'.. and set the 'presets' to, say, 'simple loud' or whatever, there doesn't seem to be a save function. So if you close the settings, or just go to another tab in the settings, then go back to 'Enhancer' the sound settings revert back to how they were before you set them ie, 'prelisten' is unchecked and the presets is back to '[restore previous settings]'

It's just puzzling me why I can't save those settings, I can't see anything that says 'save'.. just a 'close' button. It's no big deal because the player is very good, but I'm obviously missing something here. I just hoped someone might be able to enlighten me.

Hi deya... I do not use 1by1 player, but I might be able to provide some help.

When in the Enhancer settings tab, I was not able to check the "Prelisten mode" checkbox, because its not getting enabled here for me. But, I was able to check the "Enable" checkbox which is on the left of "Prelisten mode".

If you choose any value for "Presets" like "simple loud" or anything else, and then close... it again shows [Return previous settings] everytime.

This may seem like the settings are not getting saved... but if you observe the many slide bar levels closely under the "Audio Enhancer", and make note of some values of the slide bars... you will notice the values do not change.
So, the "Presets" settings which you chose earlier... do not get changed... it just shows [Return previous settings]. But, the settings do get saved.

I think you can also tell this by the slight change in sound effects, as a result of choosing "presets".

Well, this is what I observed. I think I may be right .

Anupam, yes, you're right. It does save the presets in the way you've explained, I can hear the change in sound. I'll use it like that, or with the equalizer.. still have no clue as to the function of the 'prelisten' box and I can't really see the point of it to be honest, so I'll just leave it alone. I've got it set how I want it now, it's very impressive for such a small program and it's working like a charm from my USB.. perfect.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Cheers.

You are welcome .

I think the "prelisten" checkbox is there to listen to the song, while you change the settings on the fly... like adjusting the levels and hearing the changes in the sound. Without prelisten... you have to change the settings, save them, and then listen to the song to see how it sounds. But with prelisten, you can listen to the song, while you are making the changes. This is what I think it should be.

"Prelisten" is not getting enabled on my PC, I don't know why.

Yes, 1by1 seems to be quite a gem. Such small size, and yet so configurable. There are other such small players too. You can check out Foobar2000, XMPlay, and Xion. These players too have got fairly small size, but are no less than other audio players.

Yes, that's how it seems to work because prelisten is disabled until you start to play a song. It was disabled for me at first but I can't remember what I did to enable it, so that will have to remain a mystery. It's set and working fine now, especially from the USB, which was the reason I downloaded it in the first place.

I'm a huge fan of Foobar, and AIMP2 (mainly for it's recording capabilities) but 1by1 has really impressed me. I prefer to use a few small, lightweight programs as opposed to one of the big ones with all the bells and whistles. They may not be as nice to look at but they nearly always do the job better, for me. Bigger isn't always best ;-)

Cheers.

Oh yeah... you are right, prelisten is enabled when the song is being played. Quite logical .

Just now, I tried to find the help file... and I found it. You can access it by going to Settings --> About --> Manual. Prelisten mode is explained there.

Yes AIMP2 is nice. It was a breath of fresh air from Winamp which was very popular at that time, but was getting bloated. But now, there are many choices in terms of audio players. All the mentioned names are very good. XMPlay is small... but there are so many skins listed on its home page, its unbelievable. I have used Xion too, it looks good... there are some drawbacks in the player, but hopefully they will be done away with the new version which is being developed, and is in beta.

You are right about small lightweight programs being good. Lately, I am being forced to use my old 8 GB hard disk, and these programs are proving to be very good. They take up so less space, but still have got a lot of features, which is enough for you. Recently, I found MovieSpot to play movies. It looks good, occupies just about more than 2.5 MB on the hard disk, and plays videos nicely with good subtitle support.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is also good. I have heard praises about it for playing HD movies very well.
