Pre-installed apps are usually locked by the hardware vendor. I think they can be uninstalled when you gain root access but I have yet to try it.

Frankly the Android Market is the most convenient place and installing apps via the Internet is the fastest way to go about.

The Android Market doesn't seem to host the apk files for download (unless I missed it) but some developers do host the apk files at their sites.

There are also other sites list the apk files for download such as this -- 3 Places To Download Android apk. Not sure how reliable the sites are as I don't often install apk files manually.

Thanks.

Yea, the Android market does not provide .apk files.

That is the problem, with other sites providing the apk files, don't know if they are reliable or not.. and with the amount of Android malware nowadays, I wouldn't risk installing any apps from there.

I will just wait to get internet on my phone.

Galaxy s plus is a good phone
even when i had got my first android phone - lg p500 i didnt had net and had to search manually for apk files..it was really troublesome
try brothersoft - i used to download apk files from there first and den luckily i got a wifi router and den my problems were solved
dont think about rooting ur phone anytime soon
first get to knowur phone - each and every feature
try out the apps that u need and wait for net access on ur phone

they have wifi router app for android that doesn't require root, i think it's something call no root tether or something :S

as for trusted sources on apk files, you could always find files on the app maker's site normally, or appbrain is a site i like that allows apk download (legally )

Thanks eyeb, will have a look at AppBrain. I guess that's the second most popular site for Android apps after Android market.

http://f-droid.org/ it seems legit, but ugh, don't quote me on this if cops come knocking.... this is only because I haven't heard of it but it is a fairly well known site

I just can't put my recommendation on it without using it myself for a bit more than a hour lol
