Video Converter for Mac

I use to own a pc and used iWisoft Free Video Converter. Worked great but they don't have mac support. Anybody know of a similar program with the same conversion capabilities and with presets for ipods and such

Are you using a Mac now, and want software which can work on Mac?

Or, do you want software which will run on Windows, but have presets for iPods, iPhone etc?

I have this program and it works pretty well. What I was looking for though, was something along the line of the iWisoft Free Video converter, where there were predefined presents but you also have a fine grain control over the output (frame size,rate, data rate for audio and video, aility to add subtitles and multiple audio tracks).

And yes I switched from pc to mac so I need software that run on a mac.

I don't have a Mac, and I think most people who visit here, do not have either. So, I cannot comment of whether the required features are there in the software I am about to suggest. But, you can check them for yourself. I am sure you will find something useful. They are all free, and all look good.

HandBrake is a good software and is available on Windows too.

MPEG StreamClip seems to be a popular free video converter for Mac.

I saw Kigo being mentioned on two articles too.

Well going down the line

1. Handbrake only works for ripping dvd's
2. Any video converter crashes often and has almost no support.
3. Kigo is shareware not freeware.

The rest I can't say as I already got [commercial software edited]

Well, I think latest version of HandBrake can convert videos too, apart from ripping DVDs.

Strange, the link I gave you says that Kigo Converter is freeware.

I am not aware of a Mac program which has the "same" conversion capabilities as iWisoft, however I can vouch for Handbrake being a great choice when you need to convert to video files for Apple products, like iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, and iPad.

It can convert from just about any source format now in its current version, but it's pretty much designed to output videos for the Apple product line.

I'm the Forum's resident Mac Expert and I use the "Pro" version of Apple's "built in" video player for most day to day format conversions and even for some very special editing tricks (Reverse a file so it plays backwards: Difficult even with THAT $30 commercial software).

For Free I would recommend you try Miro first (both as linked to by my esteemed colleague Anupam) then Check out MPEG Streamclip http://www.squared5.com. That works on Windows too.

The rest of the one's he's linked to are also fine choices. In fact: I think he got them ALL (except VLC ).

On The Mac: VLC http://www.videolan.org has a "Streaming/Transcoding Wizard" under the File Menu .... You can do some amazing container shifts and/or total re-encoding of files with this hidden feature. Try this if you are into tweaking file parameters

Really, Adapter is a FINE Front end to the LAME and FFmpeg libraries and can do just about everything ....what didn't you like about it?
