Talking PCBSD 9.0 (Not sure where to put this )

Hiya all. I'm not really sure where this belongs because there isn't a clear Unix forum so I'm posting it here. PCBSD uses a lot of linux software anyway.

PCBSD is a user friendly desktop operating system built atop the freebsd operating system. (Which isn't so user friendly) PCBSD is pretty stable (I was told it may be more stable the Arch but I can't confirm this.) and includes plenty of good applications and games. You can choose your own desktop environment too, from KDE,Gnome,fluxbox...etc; (You know them all). Anyway, all that's missing is more people to test it and report bugs and such. If you have any questions, there's plenty of tutorials and help available online, through their forums and IRC. See ya.

I hope you guys at least give it a try.

As far as I know, there isn't a place at the moment but there should be.

If I haven't already said it before: I'm interested in doing, or helping with, a best free PC operating system when I've caught up with my other articles.

I remember you mentioning this some time ago.

Although nice to have, I'm always aware that editors might stretch themselves too far in their desire to help You best know your own circumstances though so if you feel this is on at some point, please feel free to get it started.

Now that I've got more time available to complete my other tasks, it may not be long before I do.

I've installed PCBSD 9.0 on my box.

Here's the round up, it's not final yet. It's only RC2 but it's stable and hasn't failed me yet.
Drawback is hardware compatibility, as it is for any OS. You like it if it works, you hate it if it doesn't.

PCBSD needs more drivers I think, it missed my Atheros card which was disappointing however it caught my D-link card flawlessly when other linux distros wouldn't.

After a little bit of confusion, PCBSD is working flawlessly. Some of the packages don't work exactly as they should but most work fine (That's an uphill problem with the freebsd developers). I'm sure that as PCBSD gains popularity, more developers will fix that problem.

I had some close calls where I made a few mistakes and was scared I'd have to reinstal, however PCBSD can create backups and has boot options that can save you from most of your stupid mistakes. I was surprised to realize that perhaps this OS is almost xxxxx proof.

(Though it depends how big an xxxxx we are speaking about.)

And it works smoothly on my old machine, which is what's important to me.

I don't have time to go in depth and I'm really new to BSD in general so hopefully some of you will check out PCBSD and give your two cents about it as well.
