Thanks for this. I liked Zorin when I looked at the earlier version. I guess a lot of folks might be sniffing out different Gnome alternatives now.

Thanks for the link. I have to agree with what MC has said. I have been trying out a new Linux distro about every two days looking to get away from unity and gnome 3. Although to be fair Ubuntu 11.04 can be made to run the classic windows.

I took the Zorin tour and I thought it looked good. However I did notice one thing that was a bit misleading.

Main advantages

The Zorin OS operating system gives you the ultimate desktop experience. Some of the advantages of Zorin OS:

* No risk of getting viruses
* Much faster than Windows 7
* An easy to use and familiar desktop
* Customizable user interface thanks to our Look Changer
* Stable as it is based on the robust Linux operating system
* All the software you'll ever need out of the box
* Extremely versatile and customizable Open Source software
* Available in over 55 languages
Its well known Linux can be infected with a virus. (no matter how rare) Its only right that newcomers to Linux be aware of this.

Must mean Windows viruses

Downloaded Zorin last night and installed it today. Its obvious that considerable effort went into the development of this distro. The Gnome desktop looks very good and I also like the Ubuntu feel to it.

I am running it inside VB and I'm experiencing considerable lag. In contrast I also run PClinuxOS inside VB but it runs smooth. Which tells me Zorin is a little heavy on my computers resources. I'm going to fiddle with VirtualBox's settings to see I can smooth it out some. All in all I think Zorin deserves a closer look.

Recent development has turned this into a top contender IMO which maybe explains its march up the DistroWatch chart.

I re-installed Zorin 5 today (replacing Bodhi) alongside Windows 7 after Evolution started playing up and re-downloading stacks of my emails, seemingly at random. Nothing in the way of new mail notifications (tray) works for Thunderbird with Bodhi so I've opted to come back to Zorin

The screenshot features a fully transparent panel (courtesy of Jojo's tutorial and a selection of Screenlets. I've also personalized the launch icons individually using Faenza because I prefer the squared look.
