With this and a few other items updated, the tips and tricks now work with Ubuntu 10.10 as well as 10.04. Cheers!

Those tips you published have made a world of difference for me. I have actually had more success following the linux advice here at Gizmo's compared to the often obscure advice found on the Ubuntu specific sites. I for one appreciate your diligence. ![]() Cheers Wdhpr |

![]() Also does Ubuntu stop in the middle of the boot up or from the very start. If its in the middle of boot up you may have accidentally deleted a file. One of the precautions I have adopted is to make a Image of my root partition. I have the ext4 file so I am using Paragons backup and recovery2010 others programs may also work with ext4 . I got Paragon when it was being offered free. A version of Paragon backup and recovery can be had By following this link on Gizmo's best free drive imaging. My linux partition is only 22 gigs and and actual use is 7 gigs and so with normal compression I can back up on a single dvd As the saying goes: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ![]() Cheers Wdhpr |

The actual message is this:
modprobe : FATAL : could not load /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-generic-pae-modules.dep no such file or folder It happens after I start ubuntu from grub loader and after displaying the message for 5 seconds ubuntu loads as normal and I have noticed any errors after that. |

I did have a few boot/shutdown issues with PCLinuxOS which I attributed to the updates as they didn't start happening until after I applied them. Makes me wonder too about the wisdom of rolling releases as opposed to the Ubuntu way of doing things. With a fresh download of PCLinuxOS the immediate update package was then another 265+MB. Surely absorbing this amount of extra data is bound to destabilize something? If Ubuntu had not been so good to me I would have reinstalled the PCLinuxOS KDE 2010 but not updated it
