I just created a dual boot with ubuntu and vista and as I am new to this, I was a bit concerned with seeing my window files in ubuntu mode? Is that suppose to be normal? I know window based viruses cannot infect ubuntu, but can it pass over to my vista if i caught something in ubuntu?

As you mention, should your Windows installation be infected by a virus it will have no impact on Ubuntu. Linux isn't vulnerable to viruses in the way Windows is, I've certainly never come across a Linux virus, so there is little, if any chance of something being passed in that direction. |

Possibly you could get a virus, but only if the following requirements are met
* It's a windows virus * You download it * Open it in the Windows Partition So in other words, lets say i open a windows malware when im on ubuntu I am safe when I boot back up on vista? |

Windows malware do not affect linux at all because they're very much different down to the core. Unless you got a virus designed for linux or a real nasty one that infects your BIOS, you're safe in Ubuntu.
