Security. What do linux users need to know?

After doing a little reading I found that both guarddog and firestarter are nothing more than GUI's for the built in kernel firewall Iptables. More information can be found here: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Firewall.

*NOTE*
You can have both on your system but do not run at the same time!

From what I am reading mac has it on unique security vulnerabilities. So maybe the two should be separate. It is kind of interesting in the disparity in the amount of thread activity between the two OS's.

That is correct.
How ya been lately?

And I'm not bashing Mac. Although I don't agree in their marketing approach in so far as making their software mainly proprietary.
Just think they missed an opportunity to benefit from good open source code.

Would you like to see mac and linux consolidated?

Would I like to see Mac and Linux consolidated? I don't need to, someone already made a Linux + Mac OS X distro, it's called Lin-X. See screenshots below.





Can you differentiate which is Lin-X and which is Mac? Well, it's not that hard.

To see Mac become open sourced and get acknowledged at distrowatch is quite impossible, it's just as impossible as Linux becoming proprietary *shiver*. It would be nice to see an open sourced edition of Mac freely available for download though.

This is true albeit the IP tables are more than adequate for most of us, just difficult to configure for some using the command line hence the GUI's. I believe Uncomplicated Firewall (ufw) is flavor of the month as a frontend for IP tables because it's still in development but I found Firestarter better suited my own needs.
