Angry Continued uTorrent Chat

Hi again it's me from your other page, you said too make a new one so thats what i did :P.
I think I know what the problem is, I just can't download at busy times like when people are online because I tried it yesterday as I work at home, it worked just fine could download 100MB in 20 mins or so, but I've come to use it again today asoon as it turned 4pm, the arrows turned down + red and stopped the download. Does this happen to everyone or just me

Sorry about putting your name in the title but I have to get your attention somehow :P
- Thanks

Who is your ISP?
There are ISPs who throttle torrent speeds during certain times of day.
Although starting the throttle at 4PM seems unusual, it is possible.

Tiscali is a UK ISP with an unlimited (ie 50GB per month) allowance.

If you go over this, in theory they contact you about it.

I don't know of them throttling downloads but if the network is mega busy this might happen naturally. Don't forget there is a contention ratio on DSL as well as there was on dialup, it's just a lot more noticeable on dialup.

(Meaning: there are not enough circuits or modems for all customers. Customers must share bandwidth at peak times, ie get reduced service.)

Tiscali was ordered to implement P2P filters by a Court back in 2007.

I know from threads at the forums I have worked that they do limit bandwidth at certain times of day and they are list at the Bad ISPs page as doing so and for limiting P2P bandwidth.

My understanding from those Tiscali users was that good speeds could be obtained in the 1AM to 7AM times. So I am confused as to why you were getting good speeds in the day.

Anyhow, you might try using the uTorrent scheduler at Options>Preferences>Scheduler. If you press F1 while uTorrent is open, you will see their excellent help file. If you search for scheduler, the first topic will give you info on using it. If you have any Qs, let me know.

The other thing you might try is encryption. This seems to have been some help for Tiscali users. Ii is at Options>Preferences>BitTorrent. I would suggest first trying Enabled and allowing Incoming Legacy Connections.

However, your port was showing as closed on the tests and that still is an issue. Did you make certain that Windows Firewall was the firewall you have?

Not quite sure which one helped but I did both:-
Enabled encryption and also I enabled the scheduler, I think they both helped but asoon as I did them one of my albums shot upto 15 seeds (They normally have 1 or 2 maximum). Also it went from 5Kb/s to 86Kb/s, i'm not sure if thats quick for you but for me, it's amazing
Thank you very much
P.S I'm 100% sure my firewall is windows and with the canyouseeme tester, it come back as server connection timed out :S. Also i'm going to try leaving a few things downloading tonight just too see what happens :P
- Thanks

Well that certainly is a lot more pleasant speed.

On the port, try the canyousee me the firewall disabled.

Chris Ps point about traffic naturally slowing things is correct. Basically the providers do not have the infrastructure to support the users they have. This seems to be prevelant in the UK.
From what I have seen providers who have this issue start throttling P2P at those peak times to try and avoid the traffic jams. A pre-emptive strike to try and keep the bandwidth available.
