Sharing a public post without logging in?

In Google+, I can share a public post with anyone who doesn't need to log in. Like this post:

In Facebook, I can also share a public post but it seems that you can only see the post when you're logged in to your Facebook account. Like this post:

Am I mistaken or any ideas whether this is a restriction imposed by Facebook or any chances for Facebook to remove this requirement?

facebook removed their share with everyone, and best you can now is share with friends of friends

think it was part of that facebook privacy lawsuit a while back

hm im not sure actually...

for extra privacy, i signed up on facebook as a minor... yeah I lied about age lol, but because of that, by law facebook has to protect my "minor" self thus "public" for me is not the same "public" for "adults"

I prefer it like this so i only share things that people i know will see, and not total strangers

I think by public on Facebook, it means people who are not in your friend list, or, are not "friends of friends". It does not mean public in the sense what Google+ means.

That's getting more complicated. Who are those people then

I suppose public means any members logged into Facebook, including your friends, friends of friends, and all others you've not included in your friend lists.

Public: When you share something with Public that means anyone on the internet has permission to see it. You should only use this setting for information that you’re comfortable making publicly available. The audience for these posts could include people who are not your friends on Facebook, and people who are not in your school or work networks.

yeah but that public definition still implies being logged into facebook to see it :S

not public as in anyone can see it... facebook's way of insuring people sign up to read lol

I think that's the way it goes. Facebook needs you to sign in to see a public post, whereas Google+ doesn't.

To get the web link to a public post, Google+ also makes it easily to use, just select 'Link to this post' from the option menu of a post, whereas Facebook is hiding the link behind the time-stamp of a post and you need to right-click on it to copy the web link to the post.

@Anupam, thanks for giving its definition on a public post. It says "anyone on the internet has permission to see it" so I think it covers all members who are logged in to Facebook.
