Layout Engines will tell you which browsers are similar under the hood. Other Browsers provides more info on these less well-known browsers. For example, I'm using Pale Moon which is optimized Firefox with 100% original Firefox code.

Not much difference between FF, Pale Moon and Waterfox. All 100% FF code. Waterfox even shares the FF profile so you won't notice any configuration differences. Pale Moon is configured slightly differently than FF and Waterfox. If you have 64-bit Windows then there is no official FF 64-bit release so Pale Moon and Waterfox are worthwhile. Having said that I'm using FF Nightly 64-bit without problems. If you want unfettered browsing then Pale Moon has no parental filters.

Thanks guys.
The comparison link doen't help much as it goes back to FF5 and I am on 8 which has MANY improvements. Not too bothered about speed. FF is fast enough for me. Not bothered about parental filters either. At 73 I can just about make my own mind up and all my grandkids have their own laptops. My current system is 32bit. (64bit win7 just would not update/install in my 64bit Vista system). My main reason for looking for an alternative to FF is because (on some certain sites) images can take ages to load. Sometimes I have to reload pages too before they display. I assumed that was a problem with the particular sites (as it happened sometimes on IE also) but, so far, with PM this is not happening at all. Watch this space. |

hm... for the slow display page have you tried modifying firefox?
Namely the pipelining values and nglayout.initialpaint.delay set to 0 palemoon makes a lot of these changes for you, but if you google firefox tweaks enough you'll get firefox to speeds that palemoon uses, without having palemoon modifications |

Thanks eyeb. No, I haven't tried that. Mainly because I wasn't aware of it and, to be honest, I don't really understand it.
Having said that, I am sure I could understand it with a bit more research. However, since (so far) I have found no downsides to PM on my system I may as well just let it do the work and continue.....unless you have a better idea of course. Appreciate the input.

like I said, palemoon is just using the customizations already, but you can do the same in FF to get it to work as well as palemoon/or better since you can pick what ones to use
but if PM works for you, then great
