Probably the best freeware product I use hundreds of times each day - is "Xmarks Bookmark Sync". Started using it back in the rough days of 2006 when it had been named "Foxmarks", and like any new product there were teething and growth issues - but throughout any contact with the developers or the support team were friendly and professional.
Xmarks manages my bookmarks across multiple PCs and browsers - IE, Firefox, Chrome (in beta), Safari (Mac OS X only). It can also backup/sync passwords across all my Firefox 3 installs (an option I do not need, but I am sure others appreciate the convenience). Currently Under development is "Xmarks Search Tabs" (at this stage only for Firefox 3.0-3.6.*) Already after a few days of using "Search Tabs" I am checking first the alternate tabs to see what 'gems' others have bookmarked that I may have missed all this time. (Note it is based on the Google Search results page - and data from popular bookmarks on the Xmarks servers). One of the nice things is that people rarely bookmark spammy or junk sites - that somehow manage to appear at the top of search engine results. The Search Tabs results rarely have these sites in their results. If you are running Firefox 3 - take a look at Xmarks Search Tabs. (You don't need an Xmarks account to use Search Tabs) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14470 http://www.xmarks.com/ |

Thanks Jason for alerting us about this.
I have used Foxmarks/Xmarks for a long time now to keep bookmarks synchronized between my Windows browser, Linux browser, Desktop and Laptop. I just installed the search tabs plugin and have to say I like it a lot. In fact I think we should really promote this here on the site, because after typing in the keyword "freeware," "Gizmo's Freeware" is the first entry in the list on the first tab, and the second entry in the list on the second tab

![]() When doing research on other topics - trying to find related sites - you can look at the keywords (eg "Freeware") - if you click on that link - you can see thumbnails of related sites, which can be an interesting way to approach web surfing and discover some new quality sites. |
