Have you ever used the gopher protocol to search?
Yes it's a name from the past, but it's still alive and kicking!!! ![]() The main search database was named Veronica, a play on the Archie FTP search of the time. Veronica could get you text documents from almost anywhere while the other database, Jughead was limited to a single server. Today, Veronica has been revived as Veronica-2 and in case you didn't know it... most browsers (at least for the time being) support the gopher protocol. If you've never used it, give it a try, experience some nostalgia, it's not a modern multimedia experience, but it is a window into the past and how things were done back then. Here is the link to get you started on your journey into the past: ![]() gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/v2

This link outlines what browsers support gopher as well as additional gateways and other information.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopher_%28protocol%29 This link looks just like the gopher site, but ported to (http) http://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw
