I'm looking for a small portable converter. It is for a Ipod touch, the programs i have seen seem to want i tunes installed, I want just a small little .exe that requires no installation so i can store it on the Ipod so when i plug it into a laptop i can run it convert audios/videos import and export ect without i tunes being installed. Any Ideas?

Not exactly sure what you are looking for, reading your post. Maybe you are not able to explain it properly?

Do you want a portable media converter that you can be stored on iPod, and then can be run on any laptop or computer, by copying on them?

If yes, then try XmediaRecode. It has a portable version. I have been using it successfully to convert videos for my iPod.

The site is in German, but the software has an English language interface. Since I cannot link to the site, as per our forum rule, but, I am giving an alternate download site. You can find the link to its homepage on the link.

I just quickly tried it out, very quickly, and i wasn't able to save it directly onto the ipod only convert it. would i have to convert it then move it to the Ipod music directory? And would i be able to access the music thats on the ipod and copy it to my computer without itunes being installed?

You are confusing things here .

You are confusing between converter and iPod managers.

What you asked for is a converter, and I suggested you one. Converters will just convert the video/audio files. They won't transfer the converted files to iPod.

To transfer the converted files to iPod, you will need iTunes, or an iPod manager.

I take it that you want an iPod manager too, so that you can transfer files between your iPod and PC, without iTunes installed. Is that it?

Then you will need an iPod manager for that.

Not many good iPod managers are there, which can transfer files as effectively as iTunes.

To transfer files from iPod to PC, you can use iDump :

http://www.codershole.com/idump.php

It can be stored on iPod and run from there.

But, it only transfers files in one direction, from pod to PC.

You can give SharePod a try. I personally found it the best iPod manager. It can copy files to and fro, but I don't think it handles video files. It handles only audio files. But, you can give a try and see.

You can also try Floola, but I found it difficult to use, because it shows scary messages before you can get started with it. It was confusing for me, and so I did not go ahead with it. You can try it, and see how it goes.

Yeah i may have been confusing things... I thought the ipod needs the audio to be encoded to a special format to play that may have confused me a little bit when i was asking for a program. But yeah im looking for a ipod manager that can transfer both ways. i looked at sharepod before but it wasnt able to work on the ipod touch. il five floola a try. Thanks for the help though even if it was confusing

iPod can play MP3 files very well, so no need to convert them. Videos do need to be converted to MP4. For that, XMediaRecode will do the job. There are other video converters for iPod too, like Videora, DVDVideoSoft, etc. But, I found XMediaRecode to be quite good.

You can give Sharepod another try, as I noticed it has been updated to version 3.98.

You can find more threads on the forum, if you search for iPod managers. We have discussed them on some threads in the past.
