I have been using the free program from Microsoft, USB manager. But due to the death of my old laptop I now have a new one- 64 bit type. Now I can no longer get the Microsoft program to load. Whenever I do I get a message that I must download and install a certain framework-- it even give a push button link. So I do that but the program still will not load, every time I try I still get the download the framework download message, even though I have already installed.
It was a nice program as it allowed you to see the status of all the USB stuff, from flash drives to head sets. So since I can't seem to make that program work, was hopping someone would have another USB manager program they had had good luck with. Thanks Guys, and I appreciate any suggestions you may have. |

This is the program I had been using, but I have had no luck with repeatedly trying to load it on the new machine.
The old machine was a 32 bit Bell with XP pro. The new machine is a Toshiba Satellite 64 bit running Window's 7 Home premium. Hi, BTW Sam Last edited by samcraw; 12. Sep 2011 at 07:31 PM. Reason: additional information |

Jim already answered. The program will work on XP only, and its specified there on the page. As Jim says, why use such a program, I didn't find any special feature in it, which you cannot achieve otherwise.

I have only been using this machine with W7 for a couple of weeks. So I am still learning to "drive" it. I have found that many of my old XP programs will work just fine with W& even though they say for XP. This program evidently does not.
The reason I use it is that when I am researching a project or multiple projects, I sometimes have as many as 3 or 4 thumb drives in at the same time in order to divvy up what I am finding and be able to store it on the correct flash drive to pass along to the person who needs that particular data set. As well I use a USB driven head set and scanner. The USB manager helped me keep straight where was what and for who, a crutch perhaps but one I found exceedingly useful. I have not found another program that will do for me what the old Microsoft Manager did, and Yes I have discovered that this is unfortunately one of the progreams that will not migrate to XP. Hope that helps a bit with understanding where I am coming from. Sam |

Ah OK, now I get it Sam, and I understand your requirement for such a manager.
Will keep a lookout for such a USB manager program, and if I come across one, will mention it here.

Yes, I am glad I was able to be clear enough for you to understand the difficulty I have. And as always, I am sincerely appreciative of anyone who takes the time to read and respond to my problems.
So if such a program exists that will work with W7 I would be glad to know about it. And while the subject is on the table, how is it that some things work well from XP to W7 and other programs do not? I also now have a 64 bit computer and wonder how much that difference makes as well? So thanks all, and perhaps my fishing about here will land something that is a keeper. Best to all the Gizfolks.
