Sometime in the last 100 years or so of this site, there was a tweak that could be don so that when clicking link in an e-mail, the computer would open it but not jump to it immediately leaving you having to get back to the e-mail to finish reading and marking things for looking at.
I have tried to search for it but have no real idea what words to use to find it. Anyone here remember so far back?

Are you talking about clicking a link in an email in browser-based interface (like Gmail) or a desktop client like Outlook or Thunderbird? If your clicking a link in a browser interface crtl+left click, or middle-button/scroll-wheel click will usually work.
If you are using a desktop client and Firefox as your browser, it may work to type about:config into the Firefox address bar and find the entry browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground. Double click that entry and set it to "TRUE" It was Rhiannon that first posted about this tweak here http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...ndow-focus.htm I think the terms you may need to look at are "Open link in background," and "Prevent Outlook/Thunderbird from losing focus"

What I remember was that you had to go into some code spot and change a number or something. I apologize for being dim witted about it, but it is tiresome to read a news letter and try to click several links to read when you are done.
BTW, per your sign off. One of the most solid lessons I have learned in a long life is that the opposite of "good" is "good intentions"! Sam |

There are quite a number of utilities available that will help you keep a window "always on top."
A very simple one is DeskPins. It works by dropping a thumbtacks on the window from the taskbar, or the use of a hotkey. Link PowerMenu is a bit more advanced, and will also allow you to make a window semi-transparent, and adjust its system priority. Link Chameleon Windows Manager is quite nice, and simply adds extra buttons to the top of the window. It supports Always on Top, Minimize to Tray, Minimize to Caption, Specify Transparency, and Position window at left/right of screen Link (Freeware -- 4th from the top)
