Hi,
I've read through the freeware section and still can't really grasp exactly what I need ![]() Basically I like to 'fiddle' with the setup files, programs and registry of my computer...simply trying tips to improve security and speed here and there found on web tech forums...hey we all have to learn by trial and error...and that's the problem...error! What I'd like is to be able to have a disk that.... (if I should boot my computer up get past the bios screen and arrive at black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner and nothing further) will allow me to simply load it (the disk) in the drive and restore the system back to as it was when that disk was created...is that possible? Could anyone tell me what I need to make such a disk.....its the boot thing that baffles me! Windows XP 32bit. |

The following guidance is given on the assumption that there is no malware present on your PC!
![]() If you are tinkering with the registry then you need to make a backup copy. I highly recommend ERUNT : http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files...overy-utility/ After using ERUNT you then need to check whether your system is set to boot from a CD/DVD as opposed to a HDD. If memory serves me right you can enter the BIOS by pressing F8 when booting up but this can vary from system to system. Once you have used ERUNT and set your PC to boot from a CD/DVD you can then proceed to make an image of your HDD: https://www.techsupportalert.com/bes...election_Guide https://www.techsupportalert.com/par...d-drives-1.htm Whatever you do please avoid registry cleaners as they can cause more harm than good!! ![]() Hope the above helps.

One really easy solution that will probably take care of 95% of your problems is to do a system restore. You need to make sure you have the recovery environment installed, I'm not too familiar with XP, but did recently have a need for it on an XP machine, and it wasn't installed. google is your friend.
For more flexible and thorough protection, see the Drive Imaging page.
