Lucky24, welcome to the forum.
There are loads and loads of programs out there. You will have to be more specific, on the kind of programs that you require for your PC. Only then, someone will be able to give you answers.

You could go with portable apps. Most are very light weight and have small demands on system resources. Here is our category for them http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...e-programs.htm

If you haven't already done so, I strongly encourage you to go over to our main site (http://www.techsupportalert.com/) and search for what you are looking for. Once there, you can read the reviews of the best firewall or the best defragmenter, or whatever you are looking for. Take the time to educate yourself.
Also, I'd recommend that you run through our security wizard at http://www.techsupportalert.com/SecWiz. It will ask you some pertinent questions and then give you responses based upon your answers. I think you'll like it.

Use Threatfire only if you can handle it. Otherwise, I will advise against using it. It may be difficult to use, and also, it can conflict with other software.
If in case you are not satisfied with Avira, you can go for Avast too. It is lightweight too. Are you using Windows 7 on the PC?

I don't understand... you say that you have an old PC, yet, you have installed Windows 7 on it, which in itself is a heavy OS. Why have you chosen Windows 7? If you have an old PC, you would be better off with Windows XP, if you have it. If the PC is able to run Windows 7, then I don't think its an old PC as you say it.
Avira and Avast both are good choices... but nowadays many prefer Avast, because of more features offered, and also some people do not like the way Avira is going these days. But, in the end, its a matter of preference. I personally run Avast, and I think its light enough. Windows 7 firewall is good enough, specially, when you are in need of light software.
