Maybe I don't understand what you want, but why not just use the facility already built into windows to password protect/encrypt a folder?

Thanks for the reply.I understand I can set folder permissions or encrypt folders. However, I would usually lend my Ext HDD to my friends for sharing the movies or documents. Ext HDD has some of my Personal Data which I don't want to expose to anyone except me hence, this request. Probably I wasn't clear enough earlier. I just want to password protect my Personal folder on removable ext. HDD. Does it any make sense now ? Please suggest.

I find free Truecrypt is brilliant. You don't have to go overboard with its passwords etc. if not necessary and only takes about 3 clicks to open and insert password. On the other hand you can use it for just about completely uncrackable security if needed.
