Default hard drive sector editor

I'm looking for a simple obviously free hard drive sector editor.I've looked around, but the editors i found are either too complicated or not free. I'd like to overwrite a few areas of the drive (not system sectors). I'm slightly above the novice level! Let me know please!

I use HxD, see in Best Free Hex Editor. It is quite versatile.
