Hi,
My child loves an online flash game called 'Noteissimo'. It's a simple music creation game in tablature editor format where you just click and drag the instruments and make your music. However you can't seem to save the music for later editing etc. There are a few shareware programs that are similar, e.g., 'FlexiMusic Kids Composer' and 'Groovy Music' and 'Sony Acid Xpress' (which is way too complicated for a young kid). I've searched but have not found any free program that fits this category. Thanks, PS. Preferably a Windows program. Last edited by Epsilon; 05. Apr 2011 at 08:47 AM. |

I've spent a good deal of time searching for a freeware music composer for kids and unfortunately the is no such freeware as far as i can tell. To be honest there aren't too many really good freeware music composition applications in general, and the best ones can very complicated to use. I don't know the age of your child, but it might be worth taking a look at Temper (featured here) if he or she is twelve or thirteen-ish: of all the music apps i've looked at this would probably be the least complicated stand alone one for windows, but still would be way too complex for the average young child. An alternative would be a music generating game for the Playstation, but obviously that relies on your having said console. Sorry to say, but freeware music composing software just isn't developed for kids, or if it is i've not found it yet.

Had a look at 'Temper' and that's way too complicated. I've been searching for a few hours now and I think you are right. There just doesn't seem to be any freeware musical composition software for the over 5 years but under 10 age group. What a shame.
Thanks anyway. |
